A 38-year-old man is dead after being hit by a car while walking across East 57th Avenue in Vancouver.

The pedestrian was crossing mid-block near Prince Edward Street around 7 p.m. Saturday when a grey Honda Civic headed west hit him.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and later died.

“The driver of the Honda remained on scene and is co-operating with investigators,” said VPD spokesman Sgt. Jason Robillard in a release. “Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.”

East 57th was closed in both directions between Fraser Street and St. George Street late Saturday, and was expected to remain so for a few hours.

Anyone with information or who has dash-cam video is asked to call the VPD collision investigation unit at 604-717-3012.
