A broken power cable caused chaos on Sydney Trains on Monday morning, disrupting signalling systems and leading to major delays across the network.
The broken cable affected all signals between Ashfield and Strathfield, Sydney Trains said. The signal issue was repaired before 6am and buses were added to supplement trains between Redfern, Strathfield and Lidcombe at 6.10am, however passengers were asked to continue to allow extra travel time.
Commuters travelling on the T1 Western Line and North Shore Line, T2 Inner West and Leppington Line, T3 Bankstown Line, T8 Airport and South Line, T9 Northern Line, Blue Mountains Line and Central Coast and Newcastle Line were warned to expect delays after the signal issue.
Some services on the T8 Airport Line were delayed by more than one hour following the early morning disruption. Services on the T1 North Shore, Northern and Western Line were experiencing delays of up to 40 minutes, while some T3 Bankstown Line trains were delayed by more than 30 minutes.
